Title: Wildlife Technician Agency: Purdue University Location: northcentral Indiana Job Description: One field technician is needed from mid March thru late May to assist with a mark-recapture study of raccoons and Virginia opossums near Peru, Indiana. Duties will include, but are not limited to, establishing and maintaining trapping grids, capture and handling of raccoons and Virginia opossums, processing blood and tissue samples, and establishing landowner contacts. Housing, field equipment, and field vehicles will be provided.
Qualifications: A bachelors degree in a natural resources or related field or equivalent experience is desired, but students enrolled in an upper-level natural resources program also are encouraged to apply. In addition, prior experience trapping and handling mammals, collecting blood and tissue samples, and operating ATVs and 4X4 trucks is preferred. Applicants must be willing and capable of walking several miles a day in variable weather conditions, possess the ability to work in independently as well as in a team, and live in close quarters.
