Scenic Hudson seeks a Director of Science and Climate change to provide scientific support across the organization’s programs and advise on science-related initiatives. The Director heads a team responsible for land protection and restoration planning, natural resource stewardship, climate change initiatives, and review of development and infrastructure proposals. The Director also is involved in related policy and advocacy efforts by Scenic Hudson in the Hudson Valley and throughout New York State.
The successful candidate will have: a Ph.D. in Ecology, Conservation Biology or a related field; at least five years of relevant professional experience (some academic experience could be considered); prior programmatic experience and/or publication history in one or more topics (e.g., climate change adaptation, conservation planning, ecological restoration and spatial analysis, land stewardship); the ability to engage on a wide range of conservation-related topics and adeptly build personal/team expertise on emerging and evolving issues; strong research/communications skills and experience translating complex issues to a broad range of audiences. The successful candidate also must be self-directed and have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of constituents; possess an understanding of environmental policy, government processes, and environmental laws and regulations; and share a commitment to the mission and programs of Scenic Hudson.
