Associate in Research

Manager/Educator for WSU-Decision Aids System and Researcher

Duties: (75%) The successful applicant will function as the manager and
outreach educator for the WSU-Decision Aid System (decisionaid.systems;
ca.decisionaid.systems) which is a real-time IPM decision support system for
Tree Fruits for Washington and British Columbia.  The position will interact
closely with researchers in entomology, plant pathology, and horticulture
and our programmer to expand the capabilities.  The person will be expected
to provide stakeholder support including hands on training, development of
educational assets to increase adoption, and to assist in report writing
related to the project.  Projects included here also include evaluating how
climate change will affect management programs, implementation of pesticide
effects population models, and other innovative tools to assist growers in
managing tree fruit orchards.  The person may also work with other cropping
systems as the decision support system moves to new cropping systems.

The successful candidate will be expected to give high quality presentations
to grower and peer groups and to successfully publish information from the
project in a timely manner in both referred and grower journals as appropriate.

(25%) The successful applicant will also work with the PI to further cutting
edge IPM programs for the Washington Tree Fruit Industry.  In this position,
the person will assist in field work, analysis, report and publications
related to the research.

Salary and Availability: Salary is $60,000/year and includes retirement and
full benefits package. Position is for 1 year, with subsequent renewals
depending on job performance and availability of funds.

Applicant review will begin on 15 June and continue until a suitable
candidate is found. Position will be available in July/August.

Job Requirements:  The successful applicant must have a PhD in Entomology,
pest management, or a related field.  Experience/knowledge in the
fundamentals of pest management modeling, IPM systems, and field research
and statistical analysis are required. Proven excellence in written and oral
communication is desired.

Job Location: The position is based at the Washington State University Tree
Fruit Research and Extension Center (WSU-TFREC) in Wenatchee, Washington
(www.tfrec.wsu.edu).  WSU-TFREC is in the center of Washington’s tree fruit
production area and houses 12 faculty and 35 technical support staff.  The
research center is at the foothills of the Cascade mountain range. The area
has a wide range of recreational pursuits possible.
