Dear colleagues, Wed like to bring to your attention the session were organizing for the Fall AGU meeting in San Francisco, CA, 3-7 December 2012.
The title of the session is B013: Climate Impacts on Ecosystems Quantified Using a Combination of Proxy Records and Instrumented Observatories, and it is sponsored by AGU's Biogeosciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Global Environmental Change, and Hydrology sections. We're interested in stimulating cross-disciplinary discussion among a diverse group of scientists to complement other paleo- and sensor-focused sessions that will be organized at the meeting. The session is motivated by the need to reduce uncertainty in paleo reconstructions while recognizing that the composition and dynamics of modern ecosystems cannot be understood from the present alone. Presentations on latest results from research on the physical and biological factors that control proxy records, including (but not only) wood formation and tree growth are particularly welcome. The session description available on the AGU web site is shown below. "Ecohydrological processes in semi-arid, topographically complex landscapes vary at multiple temporal and spatial scales. This session will showcase interdisciplinary contributions that quantify how mountain ecosystems regulate water resources under changing climates. We welcome studies that combine proxy records with remote sensing data, field observations and/or experiments, or simulation models. Emphasis is on western North America because of its unique combination of complex topography and climate variability, relatively short and sparse instrumental data, abundance of proxy records of environmental change at annual or seasonal resolution, and recent establishment of new field observatories."
