The National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Program is recruiting a seasonal Biological Science Technician to conduct field work for long-term monitoring programs in the Northeast Temperate Network (NETN). Monitoring programs include forest health, freshwater wetland vegetation, estuarine water quality, rocky intertidal communities, and salt marsh vegetation. The position will be based in Acadia National Park, where approximately 75% of the field work will be conducted.

The position will be based in Acadia National Park (ACAD) where approximately 75% of the field work will be conducted. Incumbent will also spend 1 week in Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park (MABI) for forest crew training, and 2-3 weeks sampling salt marsh vegetation and rocky intertidal habitats in Boston Harbor National Recreation Area (BOHA). Duties include deploying and checking continuous data loggers for water quality in estuarine habitats and water level in freshwater wetlands in ACAD, sampling salt marsh vegetation in ACAD and BOHA, conducting rapid assessments of freshwater wetland condition in ACAD, sampling permanent forest plots in ACAD, and sampling rocky intertidal communities in ACAD and BOHA. Other duties may include pressing unknown plant specimens, equipment maintenance and repair, preparing soil samples for processing, and data entry. This is largely a field based position (approx. 95% of position), and incumbent will be required to carry heavy field equipment (40+lbs), hike through rough terrain, and work in all weather conditions. Park housing will be available at the duty station (Bar Harbor, ME), and incumbent will be required to pay for housing while at his/her duty station.
