Key duties include:

Serves in a leadership role as principle collaborator and key advisor
to the Associate Director (AD) and Deputy for the Mission Area.

Serves as principal advisor to the Associate Director for Ecosystems
on all long range mission area policies, plans and programs of
national significance in the Mission Area.

Negotiates the outcome of sensitive issues of vital interest to the
AD, keeps AD informed of potential controversial activities which may
result in the issuance of a policy directive or other response.

Performs special assignments of a highly confidential and sensitive
nature, operating with wide latitude for the exercise of independent
judgement in a leadership role.

Serves as USGS Liaison with other agencies, partners and stakeholders
plus state, tribal and other non-government organizations, to identify
and express key issues for discussion and resolution.
