FREE summer program for high school girls in North Carolina Girls on outdoor Adventure for Leadership and Science (GALS) is a FREE 2-week summer program for high-school girls to learn science and leadership skills hands-on in the woods. Through two consecutive 5-day backpacking trips in Pisgah National Forest, they will work with a team of instructors to learn about science methodology, ecology, biology, geology, teamwork, and leadership. The experience culminates in an independent project, which they will present to Duke University researchers as well as family and friends on the final day of the program.
The program is targeted to high school females from under-served and/or low-income communities. No experience with backpacking or conducting research is necessary - just an enthusiasm for learning about science. More information about the program and a link to the application can be found at: sites.duke.edu/gals . We are accepting applications through March 10.
