During the first half of August 2008, the Carolina Piedmont was showing effects of a devastating drought; we were especially concerned about the impact of ever-scarcer water on Hilton Pond itself and the organisms that depend on it.

For a photo essay on some plants and animals affected by local drought, please visit our "This Week at Hilton Pond" installment for 1-14 August 2008 at http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek080801.html

As always we provide a tally of all birds banded and recaptured during the period--including a much improved number of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds.

Happy Nature Watching!
