Indiana State University invites applications for the position of Chair of
the Department of Biology to begin in fall 2015. The department offers
B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in biology, broadly defined.  In the
past two years; the department has hired four new faculty members,
remodeled teaching and research laboratories, and acquired more than a
million dollars in new research equipment.  The department currently
comprises 15 full-time faculty, 7 staff, approximately 460 undergraduates,
and 31 graduate students. The number of undergraduates in the department is
growing, having quadrupled in the last 4 years.  Faculty members have
active research programs in all areas of biology, and the department houses
two research centers: The Center for Genomic Advocacy, and the Center for
Bat Research, Outreach, and Conservation.  Hence, the Department of Biology
is an active, growing department that presents a wonderful opportunity for
a dedicated leader to make a difference.



Advancing ongoing educational programs is a high priority.  The Chair is
expected to lead efforts to enrich undergraduate educational opportunities
and expand the university's mission of experiential learning and community
engagement. Furthermore, the Chair will spearhead efforts to enhance the
Department’s graduate programs and effectively advocate for graduate
education within the University.



The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in an area of biological
sciences or closely related field, administrative experience at an academic
institution, and a record of teaching and research commensurate with the
rank of Professor in a doctoral-granting department. Candidates who
currently are at the rank of Associate Professor and who possess
administrative experience and a significant record of research, teaching
and service are also encouraged to apply.  Application materials should be
