The O’Halloran lab in the Department of Forestry and Environmental
Conservation at Clemson University currently has an opening for a Ph.D.
student starting in fall of 2018. We seek an enthusiastic and inquisitive
student who is interested in understanding carbon and water cycling in the
longleaf pine forests of coastal South Carolina. The student will have the
opportunity to create their own research project out of several ongoing
funded activities, primarily in coastal South Carolina, using a new cluster
of AmeriFlux eddy covariance tower sites that include pristine salt marsh
and a mature longleaf pine forest. The student will also have the
opportunity to work with another cluster of flux towers that comprise a
biofuels experiment in central Virginia. After completing coursework on main
campus the student will relocate to the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology
and Forest Science to join the lab group at the coast and complete their
fieldwork and writing. A full research assistantship (including stipend and
tuition waver) is available for three years.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in forestry, ecology, atmospheric
science or other closely related environmental science with strong
quantitative abilities and self-motivation.
