I seek a Post-Doctoral Research Associate and PhD student for a project to develop regional ecological-flow relationships that will form the scientific framework for setting environmental flow standards and understanding impacts of global climate change in the Ozark Mountains and the state of Arkansas. Objectives are to classify stream types within Arkansas based on hydrology and geomorphology and develop regional-level hydrology-ecological response relationships for a portion of the Ozarks. We will use existing hydrologic and biological databases, along with comparative studies within the Ozarks to develop ecological-flow relationships. This study will provide the basis for conservation of many fish, crayfish and macroinvertebrate species. The post-doc and PhD student will work with a multidisciplinary team of faculty members, state and federal agency personnel, and NGO staff. This project will involve field work in the Ozark Mountains and may also involve experiments and observations in the lab.
Applicants should have a BS and MS (and PhD for those seeking the post-doc) in fisheries, ecology, biology, or a related field and; 3.0 GPA (minimum); 1100 (V+Q) minimum GRE. Previous research experience with fish, invertebrates and/or streams is preferred. Strong quantitative skills and knowledge of GIS are preferred. Applicants must be responsible, motivated, and able to work independently in remote field locations. Graduate student stipend will be $18,000 plus full tuition waiver with potential for additional fellowships (http://grad.uark.edu/recruit/funding/fellowships.html). Post-doctoral position offers competitive salary and benefits. Applications will be considered on October 15, 2010 but will be accepted until the positions are filled. Start date January 2011 is flexible.
