Postdoc position in soil biogeochemistry, native plant restoration, and ecosystem resilience

The laboratories of Ben Sullivan (Soil Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Ecology; sullivanlab.weebly.com<http://sullivanlab.weebly.com>) and Elizabeth Leger (Restoration Ecology; www.ag.unr.edu/leger<http://www.ag.unr.edu/leger>) anticipate hiring a post-doctoral level research associate to lead research investigations in two areas: the soil chemical and physical controls on native plant establishment and growth in Great Basin old fields, and the effects of land use history on the resistance and resilience of soil processes. This project will build on existing research (Porensky et al. 2014) surrounding restoration of old fields in arid ecosystems. The questions motivating this research are both applied and fundamental in scope, and the work will consist of a balance between field and laboratory research. The ideal candidate will combine a strong publication record, extensive soil biogeochemical experience, and proven experience with bacterial and fungal molecular sequencing methods. Applicants must have completed a PhD in soil ecology, biogeochemistry, ecosystem ecology, or a related field prior to appointment. Previous field experience in arid ecosystems is encouraged, but not a pre-requisite. We seek an individual with a strong track record of mentoring, excellent communication skills, and experience working in a collaborative environment. If filled, funding for this position will be available for two years beginning in December 2015 or January 2016. To apply: prospective candidates should email (in a single PDF file) a cover letter, CV, one page-statement of experience and interest, and the names and contact information of three references to Ben Sullivan (bsulli...@cabnr.unr.edu<mailto:bsulli...@cabnr.unr.edu>). Please include "Plant/soil postdoc" in the subject line. Applications will be reviewed beginning September 15, 2015. The position will be open until filled.
