The Northeast Climate Science Center (NE CSC), along with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Project Coordinator) to work in the areas of climate science and the evaluation of climate change impacts. The selected researcher will join an active group of faculty, post-docs and graduate students engaged in research projects funded by the Department of Interior, NOAA, and the Nature Conservancy.
Job duties include: coordinating project task teams; internal and external communications and meetings; collecting and organizing research results and developments; preparing reports, presentations, and publications; coordinating the activities of the other staff and activities on the project; assisting with dissemination of results through various electronic means; working with the Business office to compile and track dispersal of award funds and report spending to the Principal Investigator; collaborating with outside entities to solicit and coordinate assistance with activities; and participating in research group meetings. Candidate must hold a Ph.D. in an area of natural sciences, engineering or social sciences or related field with direct professional experience in climate change assessment. This position requires familiarity with basic climate science; the ability to articulate knowledge of relevant literature; managing and coordinating a multi-investigator, multi-institutional, interdisciplinary research effort and excellent oral and written communication skills. He/she should have an understanding of the process of conducting, conveying and publishing interdisciplinary research and the ability to manage complex budgets. Experience or aptitude for managing and updating website content is also preferred. The candidate must have the ability to interpret technical instruction and be able to implement action plans for projects and constructively think about alternative approaches. The candidate must be able to travel occasionally within the northeastern coastal region and give scientific presentations at national meetings. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Toni Lyn Morelli, Program Manager of the Northeast Climate Science Center and Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Department of Environmental Conservation. Starting salary is expected to be $58,000 but will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will initially be for one year and may be extended for up to two years, dependent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
