Göttingen is inviting applications for the position of a

Professor of Forest Nature Conservation
(salary grade: W2 NBesO)

to start at the earliest possible date.

We are seeking applicants for a tenured position in the field of Forest
Nature Conservation (W2). The selected candidate will run a research program
focusing on the development of science-based conservation concepts through
the analysis of ecological communities using experiments and modeling. These
conservation concepts should be based on quantitative relations between
management, biodiversity and functions of forest ecosystems and contribute
to the valuation of ecosystem services. The successful candidate is expected
to actively contribute to our faculty’s research programmes ‘Forest
ecosystems and biodiversity’ and ‘Sustainable forestry and global change’.
Interest to conduct research in both temperate and tropical forest
ecosystems is desirable.

The successful applicant will undertake teaching-related tasks in forest
nature conservation as part of the faculty’s bachelor’s, master’s and
doctoral programmes, including basic knowledge on the legal basis and
planning concepts of forest conservation projects. Furthermore, an active
role in contributing to the international English-language bachelor’s
programme entitled “Molecular Ecosystem Sciences” is expected. Due to the
international profile of the professorship and the students, lectures are
given partly in English and in German.

The requirements for appointment to this post are derived from Article 25 of
the current version of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act. Further
details can be provided on request.

Applications from scientists and researchers from abroad are particularly
welcome. The University of Göttingen aspires to increase the proportion of
women in areas in which women are underrepresented, and would therefore like
to strongly encourage qualified female scientists and researchers to apply
for this position. Disabled persons who are suitable for the post will be
given preferential consideration.
