Dear Ecolog community, I am beginning a two year postdoctoral project that aims to investigate systematics and biogeography for a family of Caribbean harvestmen (Opiliones: Laniatores: Samoidae) using morphological and molecular data.
We have many specimens from the Caribbean Islands thanks to the Caribbean Island Biogeography project! (http://www.islandbiogeography.org/) However, we are still in need of recently collected materials, particularly from mainland Central and South America bordering the Caribbean (southern Mexico to northern Brazil). This region is of great importance to our study. In general, we are looking for very small litter-dwelling harvestmen (usually collected in Winkler or Berlese samples) that are suitable for molecular work (preferably collected in >95% ethanol). Is anyone collecting litter-dwelling arthropods in C. or S. America using these methods? If you have any harvestmen from this region (or if you are planning to collect there in the near future) we hope to hear from you - you can contact me by email (dnp0...@gmail.com). It would be greatly appreciated! Curious as to what these small harvestmen look like? You can check out a sample data sheet: http://www.islandbiogeography.org/uploads/6/6/8/0/6680387/neoscotolemondatas heet.pdf Thank you in advance! Best wishes, Daniel dnp0...@gmail.com -- Daniel N.
