Hi All,

Thank-you for the overwhelming response (over 20 messages!) to
the inquiry that I posed below.

I have summarized the most popular methods for marking/labeling
Sherman traps.

   - Sharpie markers - regular Sharpies seem to hold up fine with some
fading but the Industrial Sharpie and even adding a coat of hairspray to
   seal the mark are recommended
   - Paint pens - some brands such as Forney, Decocolor, Markall and
   Sharpie
   - Attach pre-stamped or writable steel tags - from forestry supply
   companies
   - Spray Paint - may require some prep work - permanent, lasts through
   cleaning, odor may be prohibitive?
   - Stamp - regular name and address stamp and ink (presumably) - has
   lasted over 10 years
   - Vinyl tape - writable, many colours, removes easily (duct tape also
   work but leaves residue)
   - Dry erase marker- lasts only for one trapping session-easily wiped off
   - metal stamp and hammer method - recommended by H.B. Sherman traps
   -permanent

Thanks again for all the interest in this topic! I may try Sharpie markers
since so many of you have had good results with this simple method.

Hi All,

I need to mark/label several hundred aluminum small mammal traps (e.g.
Sherman Traps). Options so far have been spray paint, metal stamping,
Sharpie marker, even using an adhesive label. I would like a method that is
quick, inexpensive, does not interfere with the functioning of the trap and
relatively permanent. I am leaning towards spray paint.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these methods?

Feel free to message me off list.

Thanks!
