Three PhD assistantships available in Critical Zone Science at Penn State in forest ecology, hydrology, or soil science. Students will take part in a new graduate training program that examines forest management from a Critical Zone perspective. Students will conduct basic research at the Susquehanna-Shale Hills Critical Zone Observatory (http://criticalzone.org/shale-hills/), while also developing a Critical Zone forest management plan that they share with stakeholders. Advisors in the program are Jason Kaye, Jon Duncan, and Margot Kaye. Students can matriculate into the Forest Resources, Soil Science, or Ecology graduate programs.
