There should be no problem with using a priori contrasts. No adjustment of the p-value is required, UNLESS the contrasts are non-orthogonal, which is often the case when more than two hypothesis tests. If the contrasts are not orthogonal, some type of adjustment (e.g. Bonferroni) is requi
