Chair, Biology Department, East Carolina University 

The Department of Biology at East Carolina University seeks an
energetic, well-established investigator to lead the department's
expanding research and teaching programs beginning on or before August
11, 2008. The Biology Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biology
and Biochemistry, masters degrees in Biology and Biotechnology/Molecular
Biology, and participates in interdisciplinary doctoral programs in the
Biological Sciences and Coastal Resources Management. The 40 member
faculty has research strengths in ecology, evolutionary biology, and
cell and molecular biology, and collaborates with other Departments in
the Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, the Schools of Medicine and
Allied Health Sciences, and the College of Technology and Computer
Science. The Chair will provide leadership in the context of shared
governance for the continued growth of the department's research
programs, hiring of new faculty, development of undergraduate and
graduate curricula, professional service, and other departmental
activities. East Carolina University, the third largest university in

committed to excellence in research and teaching.  

            The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent
research degree in one of the Biological Sciences, administrative and
teaching experience, and a record of distinguished scholarly
achievements and funded research appropriate for appointment at the rank
