As chief academic and administrative officer of the College, the Dean reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as a member of the Presidents Executive Cabinet. The Dean provides the academic and administrative leadership required to achieve the highest standards of excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service within the College. The successful candidate must be a scholar, innovator, fundraiser, and a person who enjoys connecting with a diverse campus and external community. THE UNIVERSITY: California State University, Stanislaus serves one of the fastest growing areas in the country: the San Joaquin Valley. Widely recognized for its quality academic programs, the University has 10 nationally accredited programs. The University offers 36 undergraduate majors, 7 post-baccalaureate credentials, and 10 masters programs serving 8,137 diverse students. Nearly seventy-five percent of the faculty are full-time, and over two-thirds are full-time tenured and tenure-track. New instructional facilities have been built for the unique pedagogy of professional programs, laboratory sciences, and performing arts. The Dean and the College of Natural Sciences will be housed in a new $57M state-of-the-art science facility, which will open for classes in Fall 2007. The five departments within the College offer undergraduate degree programs in biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, physics, and physical sciences, and a masters degree in marine sciences. A new master's program in ecology and sustainability is currently under review. The College is comprised of 51 full-time faculty, 13 (FTE) part-time faculty organized into 5 departments, and holds accreditation by the American Chemical Society. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in a discipline represented in the college or a closely related field. This position requires a proven record of distinguished teaching, research, scholarship, and service commensurate with a faculty appointment at the rank of a tenured professor. The candidate is expected to have extensive experience in an academic leadership position at the department level or above.
