Dear Ecolog Members, There has been considerable research on the effects of changing sea ice conditions and how these will negatively affect polar bears. Reduced ice coverage will also likely increase the amount of shipping in the Northwest Passage (and other areas).
Has anyone looked at whether shipping itself - removing ice arches, etc. (with or without ice-breaking) may affect sea ice conditions and hence wildlife such as polar bears and caribou that migrate across sea ice? Cheers, Greg S
