Personally, I like Paul Hoel's "Introduction to Mathematical Statistics," published by Wiley. One of my undergrad math classes used Hoel, Port & Stone's "Intro to Statistical Theory" & I really liked their treatment... very dense with theory. Hoel's book is similar (if not a little easier), but

Alas the good books are always out of print. One of my favorite authors, D. J. Finney, once wrote a book on statistics for mathematicians. If you can find a copy, it is well worth your time. Its topic is experimental design, not general statistics, but I think any mathematician reading it will acq
