Wait up... I just saw from the logs that it can't
find /usr/bin/rdesktop. Grr!!
So though the rdesktop files are there by default, the binary is not!
Did apt-get... And am now rebuilding the image. Guess it should be
allright now.

Will have a look at it and send a patch if nessesairy. My system now
boots (with the -u option without a username), so I can go and see how
far I come with all the options I need/want to test.

Thanks for the info on building the environment that solves one piece.
I still need to figure out how to configure the iMac to boot to the
server on startup instead of booting into OS X or OS 9 on startup. How
did you do this?
