isn't right anywhere and the only the the pulse devs says is it's
the applications fault Which I would say OK to except it's ALL the
applications. That answer points to lousy devs who refuse to accept
that they've made an error

The only thing IE should
to write extra lines to your asound.conf
file, or modify the order of sound modules on your box with module
parameters, well, you showed that linux sound is hardcomplicated, and not
ready for the newbie.

ippcodecs from sourceforge provides a g729 for linux.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ippcodecs/
you can use these codecs - there are some issues with them in a
commercial situation, but for home use, 1 channel, they are fine.
the ippcodecs are a bit heavy on cpu..

There are some non optimal components in the alsa plugin, or rather,
things that are not safe.
I have some sadness at this - the alsa plugin in ptlib was copied from
the example they provided.

the nature of voip and how voip works, I don't think any other model would
work.
Remember that opal is a library, and is used by people making hundreds of
simultaneous calls. If you do propose a different way of doing things,
will the new architecture cope with being scaled up?

Hi,
Perhaps it's PTLib underneath it? I really don't know, I'm just throwing
the idea out there!
It is PTLib which contains the code to read from alsa.
Surely, the ideal is not to go via ALSA, but have ptlib directly talk
than current alsa code...
The current alsa code works mostly.. it is close.. If there was some
usable docs at alsa to explain what is not good, that would help.
Anyone able to work out what is actually wrong in the alsa plugin?
