[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Announcement

2005-09-17 Thread Kevin Rock
Good Evening All, We have just arrived back home on the mountain after a fine Greek dinner. See recipe at the end of this epistle. The Mad Greek is still doing a fine job after all these years. Our meal finished off a busy day of banging some math into a microcontroller, sawing more board

RE: [Elecraft] KAT2 - Bridge Null Adjustment problem

2005-09-17 Thread Sanger, Joseph
R6 is currently uninstalled ... I am still trying to do the CALn null adjustment ... as I said, instead of having HI showing up continuously, I know have only '000' on the display. (I don't know if this is significant, but the manual says the display should look something like '075 ATU' but I only

RE: [Elecraft] Why Lead Free? (WAS: Solder requests - STOP)

2005-09-17 Thread W3FPR - Don Wilhelm
Ron made several good points, but I want to add another - I have done repair work on 2 K2s to date that used lead-free solder, and I can tell you that de-soldering that stuff is no fun - even with my Hakko 808. Sure the solder sucks off the side the Hakko is on, but the solder itself apparently do

You go buy lead free solder, preferably silver loaded, and start using it. No changes needed to your normal soldering methods. On Saturday 17 Sep 2005 19:04, Nick Waterman wrote: > Nick Waterman wrote: > > I was going to ask, even before this thread... What do Elecraft and > > "Doctor Solder" rec

RE: [Elecraft] KAT2 - Bridge Null Adjustment problem

2005-09-17 Thread W3FPR - Don Wilhelm
The first thing that occurs to me is that the single turn of wire through the center of T1 may be missing. The second thing is that T1 itself may not be properly wound or properly soldered. Check that the proper color wire is inserted into the proper holes (the color of the wire in hole 2 should

[Elecraft] OT: Antenna Tuners

2005-09-17 Thread Matt and Kelly
Until today, I've been using an Icom AT-180 antenna tuner with my IC-706MKIIG. Well, today, it gave up the ghost. Looking back, it never really did work right. I want to replace it with another auto antenna tuner (in the shack). Any suggestions? Any that will interface with the 706? Thanks

Re: [Elecraft] KAT2 - Bridge Null Adjustment problem

2005-09-17 Thread Sanger, Joseph
Well, my KAT2 saga continues. I did indeed find some unsoldered pins on one of the relays, and corrected this. Now, however, I seem to have the opposite problem. When trying to perform the CALn procedure, instead of having too much reflected power, I now have no power (forward or reflected

Re: [Elecraft] Re: Algorithm for Tuner (Don)

Charles, I have tried that method ... ditto setting L and searching for best C. It works but is no better than the one I am using now which is to begin with both L and C at 0 and then search for the best C for every L as L increases from 0 to max. The searching is done in large steps (coarse
