Hi Dave,
Very pleased that you also share about your experience. How do you feel
about the XV144 when compared with other V/U all mode transceivers?
When you use your K2 to drive the XV144, do you use the K60XV? If not,
what is your setting for drive level?

In our high altitude ballooning program at LSU (>120,000 feet) it's
necessary to be very careful about sharp edges and corners in circuits of
even modest voltages. Vacuum chamber testing is an essential part of the

What's the upper voltage limit the DMM will handle?
Resistors have a voltage rating as well as resistance and wattage
(dissipation) ratings. We don't normally run into the voltage rating with
leaded parts, especially with low-voltage solid state gear, but it's a very
real concern as the voltage g

Plasma displays have a 6500' limit. LCD displays shouldn't have the same
limit, though I've seen specs on meters with LCD displays that say 6500'. So
maybe it's not the display.

Sounds like you have all the bases covered Chuck and it must be very
frustrating! Just for your information, I use an IO Gear GUC232A USB to
Serial adapter cable (around $30) and it works flawlessly with the KIO2 on
the K2. I'm using it with various software programs including: HRDeluxe,

Hi Mike,
i have taken my Fluke DMM up into the hills...
No problems.
The only altitude sensitive components might be the LCD and
some DMM's have spark gaps which might short on AC prematurely at high
elevation.
i doubt there is any problem.

While searching for a decent DMM to use during my K2 construction I noticed
several of them have an altitude limit of 2000m (~6500 feet). Since I live
at 7,600 feet and frequent altitudes at 10,000 while camping I am concerned
about this limit. A call to the Extech Tech Support line yielded a serv

It is unlikely that the transmit problem and the receive problem are
directly related, but it is possible.
I suggest that you ignore the receive problem until you resolve the lack of
transmit - if they turn out to be related, the receive problem will also be
fixed.

John,
Make R6 a 470 ohm just in case you ever add the K60XV option. The 470 ohm
is shipped with the K60XV, but the value in the KAT2 is 47 ohms. Without
the K60XV installed you can use either value.
R6 is not installed until after some inital checks are completed - just

Hi Simon,
Mine is very loosely refered to as a laptop, is more
like a portable desktop (pushing 10 pounds). I also
had problems with two different desktops. According to
our IT group, compatibility is an issue with some of
these.
Cheers,

Hi Chuck,
I had similiar experiences with several USB adapters.
It seems to be an issue, not just with the K2, but
