When I bought this cable all my Serial port nightmares ended in Linux, BSD,

I bother with a signal report because the contest rules often require a
signal report as part of the contest exchange (as distinct from a
meaningful or accurate signal report).
If the contest rules didn't require a signal report (such as ARRL

Dick,
Guys,
I don't post very often, but I am a full bore contester and I see a bit of
misunderstanding on a couple of fronts in this discussion (which probably
needs to be ended immediately AFTER my post ;-) )
The RST does still count and CAN be sent accurately in contests. A

We all enjoy this hobby for widely different reasons. Criticizing
someone (or a group in general) for how they chose to enjoy ham radio is

I've just finished assembling my K3 and cannot find any reference as to the
purpose for the modular jack at the bottom, front, right part of the radio.
I've searched on-line and through the message archives, as well as scanned

Seems the folks in Aptos use it for testing purposes in factory built rigs. I
think there is an alternate purpose in its future. Stay tuned for further
developments :)

We use it for initial setup and test of the K3 front panel module. It
may also be used for future accessories, such as an external keypad,
VFO knob, etc.

Hi John,
This is a programming jack used only in our K3 production and test. It

I posted last week.
I could not mute the speaker when I plugged in the head phones. I tried
all the settings and it still would not mute.
It was resolved with the replacement of the DSP board.
