[Elecraft] [K3] 'Nor' vs. 'Soft' AGC DCY

2010-03-25 Thread Al Lorona
I apologize if this has been answered before. What's the mathematical difference between AGC DCY = 'Nor' and 'Soft'? My ears hear this: 'Nor' sounds like a linear return to normal gain while 'Soft' sounds like an x-squared or x-cubed curve back to normal gain, because the beginning of the curve

My antecdoctal evidence says it worked for me, both on the initial build and on the removal and re-installation of the DSP board after upgrade. I'm not going to argue with what Alan said, as I'm not qualified, but I'm betting the health of my K3 on it, and wouldn't hesitate to pull it out again

John, I suspect that the power scaling for the forward and reflected power signals is not working properly. In high power (during a TUNE) the /FSCL and /RSCL signal go low which effectively grounds pins 4 and 2 of RP1 - that creates a voltage divider with R6 and R7 so the SWR calculation should

There is another point worth mentioning...if you are using a computer that has no COM ports but with a USB-2.0 --> COM adapter, you should be aware of the fact that many of the so-called adapters (the cheaper ones) do not implement the entire RS-232 protocol. I mentioned this on this reflector

It sounds like a simple idea, but I would suggest you use a very straightforward low-level terminal program (e.g. PUTTY) to see if it can talk to the K2. This may help to isolate which end of the RS-232 the problem is located. I had a similar problem with my K2, and it emerged that there wa
