I would think that checking once every 200 ms (5 times per second) would be more than adequate. I have an ID-880 that I have programmed with a local repeater channel bank that I can scan for activity. Given the scan rate and the number of channels, it covers each one at about that rate, or maybe a

I really miss the K3's APF in my K2. I previously tried a KAF2 but found it to be of marginal help. Has anyone found the AF1 to be as useful as APF? Does anyone have an AF1 they no longer need? I'd love to find someone close to Charlotte NC that might have one I could try before buying. 73, B

I don't have ready access to a transmitter or signal generator. I can try to come up with something. I did find that I can hear the third harmonic of XG2 7040Mhz at 21120 Mhz with my general coverage receiver when I connect the output to the receiver antenna. I pushed some of the windings on K1'

Gents, Looks like I forgot to share the outcome of this story. In the end, I got new MAX534 and replaced it, and everything is now fine. I can't tell you whether the chip was deffective from the beginning, or it was damaged by EMC during my soldering. Anyway, things are OK for quite some time. Ki

[Elecraft] K2 build - VCO control voltage 0 volts

My VCO control voltage is zero on 40,30, and 15 meters. All other bands are within the normal range, all tests prior to these measurements passed. When I try to run CAL PLL, I get info 232 even though I am on 40 meters. What should I check first? Thanks! harry KD0NFY -- Have old memories an

Harry, The thing in the VFO Range Select area that is common between 40, 30 and 15 meters is C73, Check its value - it should be 47 pF (marked 470). A low voltage at R30 indicates that there is not sufficient capacity in the tuned circuit and the PLL/VCO is trying to increase the value of the

Jim, First, the menu SSBC parameter is for compression, not gain. The gain setting is SSBA. Yes, SSBC must be set to 1-1 (no compression) for data modes. That is why it is advisable to activate the RTTY filter set in the K2 and copy the filter settings from your SSB filter into the RTTY filte

Harry, You are welcome, enjoy the build. If you have problems, we are usually available. Yes, I have been "around the block" with the K2 a few times! The question that may remain is - "Now where did I put that 47 pF capacitor?" Have fun:-) . BTW, the only 4.7 pF capacitor in the K2 RF Board

Harry, That is quite strange. I would examine your work carefully, particularly looking for lifted solder pads and/or solder bridges. 80 meters should have only C72 in the circuit. You should trace the VFO range select path with an ohmmeter by following the path in the schematic (checking f
