Hi Mike,
After cycling the power 10 times or so, just as I was going to try the P3
utility to reload the firmware per your suggestion, the P3 started working
again. If the problem comes back, I'll try reloading the firmware.

My P3, which is turned on when the K3 is turned on isn't working properly.
When turned on, it goes to a red screen, then cycles to a blue sceen, a
black screen and a checkerboard screen. The SVGA screen works properly. Some
of the P3 buttons work, some don't.
Any suggestions?

Setting up VOX/AntiVOX levels in my K3S is much fussier than my K3. In spite of
the protestations of the pro audio guy, IMHO, VOX settings should be independent
of mic gain settings. I realize this isn't the case for either radio, but the K3
is simply easier to setup.
Likewise setting audio le

Ha, ha, Ed... excellent comment! I tend to lean toward empirical measurements
so, since there are so many variables in the isolated ATU experiment my
approach is to let the system stabilize at some temperature and then open it
and allow it to return to ambient. Then I seal it up again and energi
HiI have a question about using a TR switch like the MFJ 1708 with the KX3 or
KX2 and another receiver attached to the same antenna. I realize that
transmitting could blow the front end of the second receiver if it is not
switched out of the antenna path and grounded during transmit. My question
I haven't tried it, but one way to measure the loss of the ATU would be
to connect a second, identical ATU "backwards" to a 50 Ohm load. This
second ATU would be tuned to present the highest or lowest resistive
load possible. One way this could be done would be by connecting a
resistor across
I loved Ron’s (AC7AC’s) alternative method for measuring power losses in an ATU
(reprinted below.) But if I remember my high school physics correctly,
wouldn’t one have to know the specific heat, and the mass, of every bit of
matter in the enclosure that participates in the thermal equilibrium

It ends up that John KN5L gave a thorough treatment to the topic in this

You ask a commonly asked question. And, as usual, no responses so far.
I can't give you an estimate either because first, the losses are highly
dependent upon the impedance transformation. You'd need to characterize that
doublet and feed line (the length of the feed line is important) to see what
I have upgraded my K-3 with all available new K3s updates and I just received
it back from Elecraft (check up and align). There is a great improvement in
performance but I now notice that when I set up my Heil Proset (ic) headset for
Vox use, I must run the anti-vox a lot higher than I used too
Hi Barry,
The tuner will have negligible compared to the transmission line
miss-match loss.
Take a look at the KX3 list messages:

I have been looking at photos of the Palm MK-KX3 adapter, which allows a Pico
Paddle to be fixed directly to the existing KX3. What I cannot tell from the
photos, which all show the KX3 flat or on its short rear legs, and have not
seen in any discussion, is whether the Pico and MX-KX3 combinati

Since you brought this up, I will post a link to my analysis of the
knockoff "TCXOs" for the Kenwoods. You do get what you pay for, and you
can't even buy good parts for what they charge.

It's not always a simple "pop". If equipped with a KRX3 sub receiver, it
also involves disconnecting a bunch of cables and removing the KRX3
enclosure to see the main K3S filters, then opening the KRX3 enclosure
itself to see what filters the sub rx has.

I'd appreciate knowledgeable estimates of the loss in dB through the KX3
ATU when working into a 44ft (NorCal) doublet fed with twinlead, with or
without a BL2 balun inline, on 20/17/15M.
Thanks & 73,
