I have looked over the information from Elecraft on the K4, and unless I missed
this, it does not appear that you will be able to plug a mouse into the radio
and click on a signal on the screen to move the VFO. Am I correct in this
assumption or is there in fact a provision for a mouse?

Thanks for all the comments. It appears that the most likely culprit are the
connectors. I appreciate the replies

My tired old K3 (serial 1298) displayed this while I was on RTTY today. The rig
works at 10w and under, so I assume that this indicates an issue with the power
amp. I checked the book for possible other issues, but came up with either bad
connector seating or circuit breaker issues, neither whic
This is my once a year request for “point and click” functionality for the P3.
Being able to quickly move a mouse pointer over a signal on the P3 and click to
change frequency would be a welcomed feature. When you can’t hear half the
signals that populate the local band map, being able to click
This is just what I was thinking about. If you can prove the concept, I see no
reason as to why Elecraft can't build this into the P3. The K3 is now 10 years
old; while the performance is certainly there, the basic design is now long in
the tooth. When was the last time you saw a tech product de
The point and click function of the P3 is really a misnomer. It is more on the
order of twist and push. When operating a contest in S&P mode and using the P3
to search for signals, I find the current functionality suboptimal. I have yet

Having a large screen is pretty nice. However, the frequency display at the top
is pretty small. It would be nice if the size of the numerals used could be
enlarged (and/or set by the user). It would also be nice if we could change the
colors on the SVGA display.

As noted by others, it went together very quickly. The only downside that I can
see is that it no longer is powered on and off by my K3. I built a small
circuit
that is driven by the K3's external 12V output (that used to power the P3),
that
now switches the power to the P3. Easy fix, but woul
On the other hand, I have the TUNE power level set at 7 watts, and use it to
tune my Alpha 89. So the amp-enable line is needed in my case! I imagine user
defined menu selection would allow for either situation..

This isn't a difficult task. Just use a small file and scrape the paint off
around the holes. It took me all of 45 minutes from opening the packing box to
having the W2 in line. No need to overthink the building process!

This is very cool. I added the macro for the Split+2 function, and also added
one to disable and enable the monitor. The utility is very easy to use, and my
applications loaded with no issues. My new "custom" functions work great, and
have added some convenience to my personal operating habits.
It is always interesting to see the new iterations of the K3 firmware. I
imagine that the good news is that the designers continue to find areas of
improvement. Obviously, there are some items that are of more interest to some
than others. Some of the changes seem, at least to me, to be more eso
I'm normally on CW, and the only SSB activity here is in contests, when I use
headphones and the attached boom mic. I thought I would try 6M in the VHF

turn off the monitor. But there isn't a button for that - as ever
I was using my K3 in the NAQP contest yesterday, and took a break and turned it

watts out. Once the power knob is moved above the low power settin
