Not sure about hand sanding, but i know grinding ferrite is a tricky
process, I haven been designing flyback transformers of late and grinding
the gap in ferrite cores has resulted in many cracked and broken cores, i
would assume if you are meticulous and careful hand sanding is probably ok.
Typically in audio applications you don't worry about impedance matching, an
aux input is typically a high Z (think input stage of op amps or similar)
and they are expecting a low output impedance from whatever you are feeding
it with. You should feed an aux input with line level audio.

fngercots are standard issue on a production floor. For hobby building i
doubt it would be nessecery or even ecenomical, a good grounding strap and
antistatic pad to work on is a better investment.

I agree with using 40m
Especially since they moved the 'novice' portion of the band down quite a
bit it is possible to work some slow speed around 7040-7050 now (where the
QRP action is) instead of hanging out above 7100 dodging shortwave stations
es hoping someone will take pity es come work
