A few weeks ago, I mentioned after I did a windows 10 update, I was left
without any audio, in or out.
Researching, I found a fix (which I posted).
Now, here is another flash.
There is another Microsoft posting / Fix that is useful.

My Windows 10 woke up today with dead audio output.
It took awhile for me to see the X next to the speaker logo.
(If this is already known, sorry I didn't see it, otherwise here we go:)
After coffee I found (by Google search) the solution.

BUT you are heading in the wrong direction with advice to,
'Bang head against a concrete wall'.
Instead please direct energy towards the computer.

Most professional condenser mikes need a bias of around 250 to 300 volts.
Inside the mike is a dc to dc switching supply that takes 48 volts
and wanks it up to the 250 volts or so needed for bias.
Mucho filtering and usually completely shielded in a can.
The switcher doesn't need much current.

Here at work I have contact with a Dolby engineer that is a R/C car fanatic.
He is using a new-er type of battery called LiPo, or Lithium Polymer.
It seems to have a (power) gain of 2 over metal hydride batteries.
And those have 60 % over Nicad from what I have heard.
