Re: [Elecraft] K2 100 Tuner question

2018-12-22 Thread Rick Wheeler
I always wondered why Elecraft discontinued the EC2 enclosure. Even the mod to use the EC2 enclosure with the 100 watt amp and tuner was unofficial as I understood. I built the 100 amp and tuner in the EC2 as per the instructions to mate with the K2. Maybe the demand was not there but neat setup

I see your point but... I can see a host of problems with implementing a policy of continuously  improving a radio without the ability to modify the older versions. With each new improvement that is not possible on the older versions you increasing marginalize the early adopters. Now they own

While this thread is getting a little long in the tooth, Al brings up some very interesting points. Yes, Kenwood, Icom, and Yaesu do make fine transceivers, but it does seem the Elecraft rigs perform as well and better in many cases with simpler schematics. Me, far from being an electronics guru

[Elecraft] OT : Reading Elecraft Digest

2013-05-10 Thread Rick Wheeler
I have both a yahoo and gmail account for email. I primarily use the yahoo account. Recently yahoo has decided that the 'classic' version of their format will be permanently discontinued by June 3. So I begrudgingly switched the the new format. In a nutshell, I don't like it; and plenty of forum

[Elecraft] K2 hollow sound and low power output

2011-12-10 Thread Rick Wheeler
I have a K2 No. 2005 (owned and built since new) with the outboard ATU/100 watt setup. I rearranged my shack and have been fighting RFI. I believe it had to do with the routing of the power cables. I think (hope that is!) have fixed it. A bad Anderson connector (internally loose) on the 100 watt

[Elecraft] K2 voltage and battery charging questions

2009-01-24 Thread Rick Wheeler
Finally after 7 years or so my K2 (Serial No. 2001) internal battery would no longer hold a charge. After replacing it I poked around and got some voltage readouts which I am questioning. I wanted to ensure the battery was getting the proper float charge. I have now set my input voltage as meas

This is a fascinating thread. It's nice to know Eric and Wayne have no intention or retiring in the foreseeable future and although many of us would like to think otherwise you guys can't go on forever! I am only 46, and as nearly everyone who owns an Elecraft product, have become very brand loya

[Elecraft] K2 - Internal battery life?

2007-08-04 Thread Rick Wheeler
My K2 No. 2005 (I think I built it late 2000 or so) is probably 6 or 7 years old. I have it set up with the remote 100 watt amp/tuner and the K2 itself with the low power tuner and internal battery option. My question is how long can I expect this battery to last? My greatest fear is someday open

[Elecraft] K3 build time and diagnostics

2007-05-01 Thread Rick Wheeler
As owner of K2 No. 2005 I look forward to owning a K3 some time in the future. Nice job Elecraft! I haven't yet seen an estimated build time for the K3. The consensus seems the K2 is usually around 40-60 hours for the first time K2 builder. Because of the K3's modular plug in construction I wou

[Elecraft] Erratic KAT100 tuning behaviour

Radio is K2 No. 2005 w/ all options and latest firmware updates. Attached is the remote K2/100 with the KAT100. I did in the past have erratic behavior from the KAT100 until I installed the shield mod kit. That seemed to clear up the problem until recently. Now the gremlin seems to have come back f

[Elecraft] Cordless mike for K2 ????

I have always been intrigued about using a cordless telephone setup using a headset with mike for use as a roaming microphone/headset for my K2. A google search yielded some but not many results. Some ideas here and there but What I want really want to know that if it is worth it. Another words,
