Sampling at twice the bandwidth will allow you to accurately extract
frequency information about a signal, or if all you were viewing were
sine waves. To view the actual waveform, however, you really want to
sample at at least 4x or 5x the bandwidth, or, even better, 10x the
bandwidth.

I have a KX-1 and a BuddiStick, although I haven't used them together
yet. If you have the bulit-in antenna tuner, then there's no need to
spend all that money on a BuddiStick. I have had success with the 28-
ft. wire with four radials as described in the tuner manual.

For just starting out, you can't go wrong with a Bencher BY-1. New,
they're about $110, and you can find them for half that on eBay and
at hamfests.

I'm glad to hear someone say this. I can copy at least 30 wpm now,
and I rarely hear words. I suppose I do hear some of the more common
ones, such as "FER" or "THE", but for everything else it's still
letter-by-letter for me, too.
I'd also like to echo the comment someone else made about he
I agree with copying by ear, but not with starting with a hand key.
Get a paddle and use a keyer (either internal or external). You'll
send better code and it will be a lot less strain on your wrist and arm.

of 'automatic' system or crutch I believe that much of the appeal
in working DX is lost. DX Clusters are bad enough IMHO.

It's all a matter of where you draw the line. This is just more
technology, and technology is **supposed** to make things easier.
Following your line of reasoning, we'd have to disqualify those using
DSP or beam antennas because it makes DXing harder for those that
don't have them.

Hi, Dave--
Ann Arbor here. Last summer, I also built a 66' doublet, but used
twisted pair for the feedline. Connected the twisted pair directly to
my KX1 with an internal antenna tuner. I didn't' work UT, but I did
have solid contacts with VT, OK, and MD stations. It seems to work a
