Hi:
I got to page 59, Aligmnent Part 1.
The voltage between TP3 and TP4 was 7 mV and did not change.
Is anybody out there using a transverter with this same rig?
If so, could you pls reply off list?
This might take me a while to sort out.
thanks,

Hi:
It was an accident.
I killed Q3, the MJE182 NPN transistor.
Q4 survived, but are Q3 and Q4 a matched pair, in the same way that Q1
and Q2 are?
In other words, should I be extra careful ordering spares and replace
them both, or will just replacing the broken part be fine?

Hi:
re: page 75, "40-meter transmitter alignment", current drain during
"TUNE" at 10 watts is between 2.2 and 2.3 amps. Should I be concerned?
re: page 76, receiver pre-alignment, 80 meters, I had a hard time
peaking L3 and L4. peaking the other bands was easy by comparison.

Hi:
Everything went together flush, square and true, if I do say so myself.
I should have mentioned that I can get the standoff just barely threaded
into the retaining nut, by a quarter turn or less. Not really enough to
ensure that it stays fastened. It's the thickness of the plastic flange
Hi:
The standoffs that hold J8 (the DB9 connector) to the back
panel aren't long enough.
They don't reach to the threads on the nuts.
Has anybody else had this problem?

Hi:
No doubt this is old hat to some 5000 of you out there, but I have just
made it to the end of Chapter 7, so consider this one built.
The first thing that ever popped up on my display was INFO 80, and there
were times when I wondered if I might turn 80 before reaching page 80.
But I did it, and
Sorry, I meant C33, not C45

Hi:
On my board, that extra hole that I referred to is almost underneath the
relay, and it intersects the silkscreen outline of C45.
Nowhere near the ends of the oval outline like all of the other caps, so
I figured that it didn't apply, but I just wanted to make sure.
I was just a bit leery of us
Hi:
Similar to cap C6 on page 57, do I install cap C45 in the outer two of
the three holes?
The marked outline suggests that, but that middle hole seems placed
ideally for the lead spacing of the supplied part.

I guess that I should have asked this question a while ago, but is there
a polarity associated with those sub-mini RF chokes, the little
inductors that look like resistors?
The outline on the board has a pair of lines across it, slightly offset
from the midpoint.
I wonder if it means something.
From the ongoing drama that is Alignment and Test, Part 2:
Pages 57, 58.
My hopes for a unit totally free of desoldering were dashed when I found
that I had put a "27" cap in C72.
On a happy note, replacing it with the proper "271" cap brought the TP1
freq down from 12 MHz down to just above 8 M
I have made it to page 57, "PLL Reference Oscillator Range Test".
My high Freq is 12098.42
low freq is 12085.21
Range = 13.21 kHz
So the range is not between 9.8 and 13 kHz, and I must "refer to
Troubleshooting".
I'm stumped.
To exactly where in the Troubleshooting section are they referring?

Hi folks:
"The excitement is building."
K2 s/n 3460 and I have made it as far as page 46.
Who would have thought that an instruction manual would be such a page
turner?
During "Alignment and Test, Part 1" Info Code 080 pointed me to a
problem with the Z5 ceramic resonator: I forgot to put it in.

Hi folks:
The quest to transform K2 S/N 3460 into something greater than the sum
of its parts has finally begun in earnest.
I am working on the Control Board right now.
I just want to confirm the assembly instructions:
R18 and R19 are basically resistors with value of 0 (zero) ohms.
