Hello to all!
My husband Larry, NC4LR, has a neurological disease and cannot manage CW
manually.
I want to enable him to use fldigi for CW since he now uses it for PSK and RTTY.
Don Wilhelm has told me to leave the K3 in Data-A mode, which works fine for
PSK and RTTY using fldigi.
Then in fldi
Dave suggested the HamLib option in fldigi as follows
Next, in Fldigi in Config\Rig control, choose the Rig tab, then Hamlib.
In Hamlib, check the box in front of Use Hamlib at the top. In Rig
choose Elecraft K3/KX3 (Beta). In Device, choose your com port. Below
that, set the Baud rate to 384
Normally the P3 uses the VFO A frequency as its center, but when a DX wants
stations to call in very far above or below his own frequency (a very wide
split, as used by K1N recently) then I need to learn how to tune the P3 away
from the VFO A frequency or else the pileup does not show on the P3.
Recently when I switch on the power to our Kline (K3 P3 KAT500 KPA500) the
panadapter screen shows a blank black waterfall. After making sure that an
antenna is connected I changed bands and modes and behold, signals appeared and
were also present when I switched back to the original band/mode
I heartily agree with all the comments praising the kind character technical
abilities, and magnanimous helpfulness of Don Wilhelm! Larry and I are lucky
to live a few miles away from Don and so have been able to meet him and benefit
from his help. YAY for Don!

Somehow yesterday our sound card settings changed on their own.
We use the Griffin iMic for digital signals with our KX3.
It used to be identifiable by name in the Windows sound card settings
but today it has been replaced by number-jumbo choices and our settings have
been altered, affecting our f
Based on discussions on this list I thought I would try CWSkimmer to attempt to
copy those speedy CW operators. For some reason I can't figure out, when I
open CWSkimmer the K3 transmit light comes on. I have selected the signallink
as the sound card and CAT via COM4. The K3 is in Data A mode
Our KAT500 (used with K3 and KPA500) seems to have forgotten its correct
memories for the 20 m band or maybe developed new erroneous memories. It gives
me 14 to 1 on autotune. If I set it on manual and do a tune it reads 1.2 to 1.
So here is the question: if I do manual tunes every so many MH
Hello all, I am trying to figure out why our P3 panadapter sometimes but not
always shows a group of vertical green stripes that cover about 1/6 of the
width of the screen. These stripes are not related to RF frequency because if
I switch bands they remain in the same location. If I remain on
Thanks to Guy and top Wayne for their comments.
I was not clear in my question: The unit is a P3, not a PX3.
The vertical columns of noise are present with or without the antenna connected.
As they change from one time to another, I do not think they are internal noise.
I see in the issue of QS
Greetings from KT4JR and K4MWE to you smart folks...
Our panadapter regularly (but not always) shows wide green bands of "noise"
before the antenna is connected. When present, the bands are visible in the
same panadapter screen location regardless of wbich band the radio is turned
to, but the
Perhaps others like me are unaware of this proposed FCC rule that would allow
digital communication modes 2.8 kHz in width to be used robotically in the CW
and data
sub-bands without regard to interference. ARRL supports this and evidently
initiated it.

Hello to all and THANKS in advance for enlightening me on fldigi and flrig used
with KX3 and K3.
We havwe been doing fine with fldigi alone (no flrig) and PSK on KX3 and K3.
Now Larry (my husband K4MWE) wants to branch out to RTTY and to try CW via
fldigi.
(Yes, we want to learn to hear CW but L
This was it! So simple yet so easy not to notice...
THANK YOU, David!
Thanks also to the other kind souls who wrote different ideas. I appreciate it!

Hello to all! Our KX3 that Larry uses for PSK has mysteriously developed an
unstable ALC bar setting.
If we use the mic gain to set it for 4 bars while transmitting, then on the
next transmission, without our having touched any controls, it goes back up to
6 or 7 bars.
Any ideas what could have
OK, I seem to have fixed the trouble but I don't understand it.
The KX3 screen had shown "ANT ERR" and "PR FLT" but after I did manual tunes
for the KXPA100 this no longer happened. But why was this needed since the
KXPA100 was already on auto tune? Trying to learn...

We have been using HRD logbook successfully but we want to start using more
features such as recording and digital modes. What interfaces and sound cards
work well between K3 and HRD on a Windows 7 computer? What do I need to buy?
Thanks!!
