Hi Everyone, I have a KPA500 SN 4414 that I use with a Flex 6600 and an upgraded K3. I’ve started getting reports of dirty signals when I use the KPA500 at >200 watts with either rig. The problem is there at lower power it turns out, but I guess it’s not bad enough to get complaints. I did some testing, swapping, checking cables…
If the KPA500 is switched OFF, the signals pass through and look good to me on a separate SDR. I’m using a dummy load for testing and use various power settings. As soon as I switch the amp ON, even in bypass I see tons of spurs when transmitting at various power levels (even down to just a few watts). Doesn’t matter if I’m using the Flex or the K3. Turn the amp to operate and the same thing, just bigger signal. Turn the KPA500 off and the signal from the Flex or K3 looks good again. So… I’m hoping someone has seen this before and that it’s something I can fix without shipping this back to Elecraft. Any ideas?
