stupid mistake of installing Microsoft's XP Service Pack 3 on my Dell
Dimension 9100 with ATI Radeon display adaptor. Afterwards my 20" flat
panel monitor (which supports 1600 x 1200 DPI resolution at 32 bit color

I found my SP3 removed bugs that plagued me before the release. This
replaces building our own and trying to fix it. :-)

This is not unusual for service packs. In the past, I just updated
the drivers for the video card / display and it restores all to its
former glory. Not that I am a big proponent of M$, as this is written
from a Ubuntu Linux Box.
