Hello all,

I just made an observation that may shed some light on why some people are
complaining of not having enough audio into their headphones. In spite of
having the AF gain set to "LOW" in config, I do not ordinarily have this
problem - I have plenty of audio into my front connected Heil headphones.
Most of the time. Tonight I was perusing some AM broadcasters which had very
low audio on their carriers. To my astonishment I found that the AF taper on
the K3 is very far from the logarithmic taper found on analog systems. I
don't have any instrumentation on my headphones output, but I am betting
there is no more than a 6dB increase in output from the 12 o'clock position
to full blast. My experience with logarithmic potentiometers is that the
output at mid scale (12 o'clock) is 1/7 (voltage) of full scale or -17dB of
full blast. I am guessing that the actual pot is linear, but this should be
easy to convert to logarithmic (or more correctly, exponential) response.
