Tom, The life of an SLA battery is normally 3 to 5 years. You can save the cost of shipping from Elecraft if you have a Batteries plus Bulbs store in your area. The may not have the 2.9AH battery in stock (but they will order it), or you can use the 2.3AH battery which has the same form
