I had an internal dialogue with myself as to whether I should reveal what
the problem was, and concluded that I should. Maybe it'll help someone
else. I was pushing the wrong button to activate CW RV. For some reason,
my brain said I should push and hold the button below (XIT). Problem
solved;

The first thing to do is to determine which wrong responses are being
sent, and for that you must refer to the schematic. In your case of the
REV button and the STP 60 display, the hold of the REV button is
bringing up the PF1

Check the Front Panel Board. My immediate guess is that you have a
soldering problem on RP1, or that RP1 is inserted backwards. That is one
of the R-Paks that MUST be inserted in the proper orientation. Look at

mode. In SSB mode, it should toggle between LSB and USB.
If it works in SSB mode, but not in CW, you may have a display fault
that is not showing the bar - that is a different problem.

The CW reverse is indicated by a bar over the "c" to the right of the
display. Holding the REV button should toggle it.
Likewise, that same button will toggle between USB and LSB.

Yes, there is a menu item - it is the sidetone source.
Enter the menu for STL, then set the parameter for something loud enough
for you to hear - use 25 if you have no other idea. Then while still in

(probably not necessary, but why not?) run the installer as the administrative
user, you also have to run the programs that way. After you do the install,
the programs OmniRig.exe and CWSkimmer.exe will be in

You may want to look at me website www.w3fpr.com K2 Dial Calibration
article for some information. Part 3 of that article deals with filter
alignment, both CW and SSB.
The important factor is to align the -3dB point on the low frequency end
of the passband at 300 Hz.

OK I found Spectrogram 5.0 runs perfect in Wine within Linux. I aligned
my CW filters per the N0SS document. All went real easy.
Question though, how to align the SSB filters? What should the filter
shapes look like? Is there an online document showing me what I should

After almost 10 years with my K2/qrp I have acquired a K2/100 and of course it
has the computer control feature that my last basic k2 did not have.
I was using CWget and CWtype with my other rig but I am wondering if there is
something else that I can use with the K2 via the KIO2 interface. [
Just out of curiosity, if the ST P menu item was changed, to change
the CW tone, would that cause a similar shift? And by default that is
tied to the PF2 key, and would not be terribly hard to bring up by
mistake. I know I have done it.

Dave,
The ST P parameter changes only the sidetone pitch, it does not change
the filter centering.
BUT, the amount of transmit shift is determined by the ST P value, so
the transmit frequency will change, but the receive frequency stays the
same. That is why it is best to center your CW
I thought it was just me...but chatting with another K2 owner whom
experienced the same event, about a month ago I turned on me K2 and
discovered all the CW filters Flt2 ~ Flt4 had shifted in relation to the
BFO, all by the same amount!! My 680hz center was now off...
FLT1 and SSB had not
There is nothing in the K2 that would shift only CW filters FL2 thru FL4
other than a re-adjustment of those filters themselves.
Is it possible that something happened to the BFO that has changed *all*
the filters, but the change was not enough to make a noticeable
difference when listening
I have an 718 with the 250 Hz filter. That filter locks down things
quite well, but it also allows blow by with large nearby signals that
make things difficult also. In the short time I have been a CW op, the
skill that Ron mentions is just starting to get to me. I have often
been frustrated

The 830s had dual 500 Hz factory filters (one in each IF) plus VBT to

First see if the problem is with your CW filter itself or it is in the
filter switching on the KSB2 board. Proceed as follows:

The K2's logic design allows for an error of up to 20 or 30 Hz,
Would just like to add that it's also important to have the signal of
interest zero-beat with respect to the bfo frequency *before* switching
between CWn and CWr. Failing to do so will guarantee that the normal and
reverse pitches will not be the same (assuming everything else is set up
