Antee,
I had the same thing happen to my original K3 a while back. The awesome tech
support at Elecraft walked through it with me and had a replacement board
KIO3 board shipped out and in my hands in a day or two. I am quite certain
that this will solve your issue as well.

I got a call from DaleA tech from Elecraft
We did some test on the K3 and found out that a chip (U1) on the K103A board
went bad and am sending It back for repair...
It might have been zapped In a lighting storm when I forgot to unhook the K3 ?

I tried to reload the update with no luckI reload the K3 Utility,Prolific
Drivers and tied again with no luck. I then tried my DB9 serial/USB cable on
my LP-100A and the cable works fine ! ! ! I'm starting to think that my KIO3
remote I/O Module Is bad Or something In the Radio went South on m
Remove K3 power by pulling the power plug. Wait about 30 seconds. Shut down the
K3 Utility. Plug the radio back in, and turn it on with the power button. Then
start the K3 Utility again and load firmware
