Prior to the CQ WW CW contest, I did some experimentation with the K3 AGC settings (rev 4.51 firmware). I started with the AGC SLP set to 0 and the AGC THR to 8. After some problems with the AGC action on stronger signals (S9 to S9 plus), I increased the SLP to 2 and found that there was no longer any need to turn the AGC off and ride the RF gain on these signals. These settings worked well for me here in Western Australia, but the signal levels aren't as high as they would be in Europe or North America.
