My install went smoothly enough - until I turned on the radio. No sound
from the speaker (internal or external) unless I choose "phones plus
speaker" in the menu. Did have sound through the phones. Hmmm. Took it all
apart and put it back together. Here's what I found:

Even though all my pins on the headers lined up, I had not pushed the front
panel board on far enough. My screws were just a smidge off where they
were before when I put the cabinet together and that should have been my clue
 the first time.

Lesson learned, be sure you take the extra effort to push the boards
together and especially the two headers that are hidden behind the front
panel.
If your screws do not line up "exactly" where they were before, there is a
good chance you have not properly seated the pins. The pins may look like
they are going in the right place but if they don't go far enough into the
jack, they don't connect.

As for the performance, frankly without having two radios side by side to
A/B compare, I am just going to accept the fact it is "new and improved."
I need some more time to assess.
