I just finished the basic QRP K3. I still need to do the PA. Total building
time was 5 hours and 48 minutes. I didn't waste a lot of time inventorying
parts up-front. Only 37 minutes was dedicated to counting screws. I
inventoried the "miscellaneous" bag, which has almost all the hardware, and
the front panel bag, which has some more hardware for the front panel.
Because of the way the K3 is kitted, the rest of the subassemblies can be
easily compared to the parts list as they're needed.

As is my custom I took a picture at the end of every page but frankly it's a
little boring when you're not watching the number of parts mounted to the
board grow as you flip each page. I'll probably post them at my site just to
be thorough, but I don't know if they'll be very helpful. The photos in the
manual are all you really need.

The build time also includes a couple of re-do's as I tried to handle a
situation where I didn't have the right screws for the job. The manual
called for two 3/8" screws, but I didn't have any of those. Looking at an
older version of the assembly manual I decided to substitute 3/16" screws.
Then after talking to the experts we concluded they must've substituted 1/4"
screws in my kit. So I removed the side panel and replaced the 3/16" screws
with 1/4". Then when I was almost done I found out I was two 1/4" screws
short so off came the side panel and back went the 3/16" screws to free up
the 1/4" for their true purpose. All of this is being reported back to
Elecraft so your kit probably won't have this issue. :-)

Hopefully I'll get the PA finished tomorrow and have the rig on the air for
CW SS.
