I use a battery-powered Heathkit unit I bought off Ebay. Tunes 3.5-4.0Mhz
(0-500Khz). Datong made a similar one though I've not tried it.

I've heard a number of beacons on 600m. YWA, in Petawawa Ontario is
usually pretty strong here, 500 miles away. Plus lots of NAVTEX
stations on 518 KHz-- typically clean copy of New Orleans, 1200 miles
away.
I'm using my main transmit antenna, a 100 ft wire. The ATU is in LCSet

I am a K3 owner and user. I have the KRX3 module installed. What do I
need in order to hear below 500 kHz? Or is this even possible for
the K3? Currently, there is a great signal drop off when I tune below 1 mHz.

Dave,
I ordered a Jackson Harbor VLF mixer based on this discussion started by
Jack Smith K8ZOA:
http://n2.nabble.com/VLF-LF-Converters-td787815.html
I wrote up my results here:
Receiving NDBs with the Jackson Harbor LF Converter ... Elecraft K3,
LP-PAN, and Quisk
This morning's test transmission on 17.2kHz from SAQ was received at RST
599 at 08.00 and 08.30 UTC using a Datong VLF converter and my K3 turned
to 28017.2 kHz. The K3's NB and NR were very useful in cutting out the
background noise.
