Mike,
Use the Fluke. You will have to measure about 1 amp. Do it just like
the manual says. You will probably have to make several trials until
you get it right. The current rises quickly, and with a digital
display, the first reading flashed is not valid, so wait until the 2nd
or 3rd up
I'm not sure what you are looking at Mike. The K3 Assembly manual has
nothing about the fans on page 49. Testing the fans is covered on page 14 of
the KPA3 option manual, as follows:
Press the POWER button to turn the K3 on.
Hold CONFIG to select the Configuration menu, then turn VFO B to KPA3.
Thanks very much DonWeird thought that was what I was doing but seems
not. I did as you said and all checked out with the fan speed just fine. Now
it is on the the Bias currant adjustment going to use an DMM for this oneI

Mike,
Is the "underline" cursor under the "ON" in the PA ON menu? It must be.
To set up to "Edit the menu parameter", you must hold the EDIT button,
and the cursor will move to the right. Once it is there, tap the
DISPLAY button to cycle through the fan modes.

I have checked out just fine up until the fan test on page 49 of the assembly
manual. I set the power control to above 11 watts now to edit the PA menu I get

button I am not getting to the fan setup menu. I know I a
Jeff,
The fan moves air into the PA and it exhausts between the heat sink fins
behind the KPA100 front cover at the top.

Hey Folks, got the KPA100 done tonight, full power on all bands, woohoo!
One question, is the fan supposed to blow IN or OUT of the chassis?
I saw the same question in the archives but no answer...
Thanks!

Jim,
The fact that you had the TPA parameter set to 11 degrees would explain the
fan not coming on even with high heat sink temperatures - the firmware did
not know just how hot the heat sink actually was because it was not properly
calibrated.
The temperature displayed in the TPA setting should
I can't speak to the issue of the fan not coming on, but I can offer some
experience with a hot heat sink. A few years ago I used my K2/100 to test
the temperature compensation mods during which the heat sink became too hot
to hold my hand on it. The internal air temperature of the K2 was around

Hi,
Yesterday I participated with my K2/100 in the Pike Special Event station
here in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was in observance of Zebulon Pike's
bicentennial discovery of Pikes Peak. We were in a terrible location in a

I've been moving things around in the shack and have been particularly annoyed
with the noise from the KPA100 fan when it's on high. I don't think this is
new, just that I notice it more with the rig a bit closer.
Is there a way to make the fan quieter?
Is it just me and my fan or are they al
