Richard, Can't figure out if you are trolling or not. If you can figure out how to dissipate the heat in the small KX3 enclosure, it could work, but you would have to carry a heavy battery to power it. The KXPA100 is one solution, you can throttle the power back to 30 watts, but you still

I've done the mod and still need the RX SHIFT and the VFO NR ON on all bands 15 meters and up through 50 MHz. I am in a rural location and have very low noise on all bands, I guess the pin clipping cannot hurt. K6CG/VE1 for the summer
