I can really recommend a program called Faros, by VE3NEA. It monitors the 
beacons, and can control the radio through the RS-232 interface, to build 
up a picture of what beacons are audible throughout the day.

I stopped using it as it was not convenient to tie up a radio and the 
computer sound card 24/7, but it would be fascinating to have a propagation 
record built up over a period of time. I was amazed how often distant 
beacons could be heard even on bands that were apparently dead.
